MIYUKI SHINMOTO

 Balance, Light, Warmth and Rhythm
November 9 – December 2 2006

Miyuki's exotic stone sculptures exude a beauty that is released softly into a natural balance that brings light and warmth. She transforms rhythm, spirit and emotions into curves and forms that are lucent and beg to be touched. Miyuki's sculptures range in varying dimensions from 4 to 25 inches. The stones used are Portuguese pink marble, Greek marble, Italian marble, orange alabaster, honey calcite, pink alabaster, French limestone, limestone, and marble.

One lives in a contemporary society. One sometimes feels a strange static running through the veins that cause friction in the body. When one is unsettled, when one is opposed to the external world, one drifts by the flow of time. One feels the comfort and stability of the soul in a warm space, as if it were engulfed by something. It could be family, friends, nature, light, life and love.

That is the beauty that is released softly onto an unintentional natural balance and a kindness that brings light and warmth to all. Each person has a different perspective. I associate this rhythm, spirit and emotions into curves and round forms that are translucent with a touch of glow and dim color to its quality. Like color changes gradually from dark to light, the shift from motion to calm, reflecting something from the past when one meditates. I am seeking and searching for that comfortably pleasant rhythm of life that naturally flows into the shapes of my art in order to return to the natural rhythm.
